About the artist
Isaac Skelton, born in 2004, grew up in the south of England to a British father and Singaporean mother. His identity as a transgender, mixed race man greatly informs his work, exploring these themes using drawing, multimedia collage and poetry.
Art as activism

In our current political climate, transgender people are being scapegoated for the issues within our society. As a result, trans people's human rights are under threat as well as a rise in transphobia, transphobic violence and hate crimes. The aim of the right wing is clear: to remove transgender people from public life. As people pf conscience we must resist to make sure this does not become reality, because nobody should be subject to violence and discrimination for an immutable characteristic such as race, gender, and/ or sexuality.
As feminist philosopher Judith Butler identifies: the affirmation of queer, trans and intersex lives should be closely allied with the resistance against colonisation. Our fates are linked to those of so many others around the world. "It is foolish not to see the divisive strategies for what they are and refuse alliances against powers that will not only marginalise but demean and negate a great many interconnected lives."
One of the sharpest tools of civil resistance is art.
